Biography
Everton Clarke was called to the Jamaican Bar in 1991 following completion of his LLM at the London School of Economics, and founded Clarke, Whittaker & Reid the same year. He was appointed King's Counsel in 2010.
His practice spans corporate and commercial transactions — mergers and acquisitions, group reorganisations, joint ventures, and private equity transactions — and high-value commercial litigation before the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. He has appeared in the Court of Appeal on matters involving the interpretation of commercial contracts, company law, and, on two occasions, constitutional law.
Mr Clarke is frequently instructed as lead counsel on multi-party transactions involving Jamaican and regional parties, and advises boards on governance matters, conflicts of interest, and directors' duties. He has acted for companies in the energy, telecommunications, financial services, and real estate sectors.
He is a former member of the Council of the Jamaican Bar Association and has served on the editorial board of a regional law review. He lectures occasionally at the Norman Manley Law School.
